Vermont Rock
Vermont offers fantastic rock climbing on quiet crags where crowds are nonexistent and the routes are stellar. The Bolton area holds a multitude of cliffs with one and two pitch routes at all grades. Moderate standouts include the intimidating corner system of Chockstone (amazingly only 5.8!), and the backcountry gem Family Picnic (5.7) with its spectacular views of Camel’s Hump and remote setting. For those looking for a major league pump, the sustained jamming of The Rose Crack (5.10) is sure to deliver, while the thin and airy face climbing on the 82 Crag (5.8-5.10) will challenge your technique as well as your stamina. And for experienced climbers seeking the full-on Vermont experience, Smuggler’s Notch offers little known adventure routes up to 5 pitches. Bring you’re A-game, as these routes are steep, exposed and burly, starting at solid 5.9.
