New Hampshire Ice Conditions Nov 2007

Rock and ice climbing is hard to plan on in the month of November. One must be patient and wait for the cold weather to have a chance of success. The following report shows how good early season ice and rock conditions can be on Cannon Cliff and in Crawford Notch New Hampshire. I have loaded images of the Whitney Gilman, the Black Dike, Fafnir and Hitchcock Gully.

Steve on the last pitch of the Whitney Gilman Ridge.

Cold conditions high on the ridge.

Alden Pellett most likely nabbing the first ascent of the Black Dike Ice Climb on November 9

Jim Gagne on the Black Dike Cannon Cliff -November 23

No rock traverse just step left up the ice. November 23

Jim at the belay on the second pitch of Fafnir. Fat ice all around.

Fafnir Pitch 2 - in good conditions.

Fafnir - Pitch 3 - with lots of ice - even took screws.
